Hard-Drives
It is mandatory that you come to class with a hard-drive by our third lab meeting on February 20th. We will be filming project #1 that day, so you will need to have a place to store the video files you create!
Here are specs your drive needs to have to be able to handle HD video editing:
- USB3.0 (not USB2!) or Thunderbolt connection (for compatibility with Lab computers)- 100GB or more (500 GB minimum is pretty standard for regular portable drives)
- The best drives are SSD (solid state drives). They are fast and sturdy and compact.
You can purchase drives online at Amazon.com, but video stores in New York tend to offer student discounts, so it may be worth it to travel to one of these stores for better prices (make sure to go with your Hunter student ID):
*B&H Photo Video: 420 9th Ave, New York, NY 10001
*Adorama: 42 W 18th St, New York, NY 10011
Mikey's Hook-up: 88-90 N 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
*These stores observe the Jewish holidays, so be sure to check their open hours before you go (especially on Saturdays).
Here are some hard-drives we recommend:
$80: G-Technology 1TB G-DRIVE mobile USB Portable Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
$90: G-Technology 1TB G-DRIVE ev RaW USB 3.0 Hard Drive with Rugged Bumper
